Copa America champions Chile will try to neutralise Portugal's superstar Cristiano Ronaldo in today's Confederations Cup semi-final with the goal ace in rich form despite the tax storm brewing in Spain.

And Vidal, who last encountered Ronaldo in the semifinal of last season's Champions League, will go head-to-head again with the four-time Ballon d'Or victor come Wednesday.

It remains a record across the continent to this day.

And things won't get any easier for the South American champions when they face Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal in the semifinals.

Chile, who won the Copa America in both 2015 and 2016, will present Portugal with their toughest test so far in Russian Federation, but the South Americans have yet to beat Portugal in three attempts, with two defeats and a draw.

They go into the match-up having netted seven times in three games - drawing 2-2 with Mexico, before beating Russian Federation 1-0 and thrashing the All Whites 4-0. "Every player went right to the end and there are so many positives I can take".

Portugal takes on Chile on Wednesday in the semifinals of the 2017 Confederations Cup in Russian Federation, a test event ahead of the 2018 World Cup.

Ronaldo remains the central threat for his team after scoring twice in the tournament, but Portugal have a wealth of creative talent available to support him.

And the Manchester City man is still clearly struggling with the blow as he missed out on Monday mornings training session.

Chile appeared quiet against the Socceroos in their final group match, but they produced a solid second-half performance to qualify.

"We knew it could be complicated because we had seen New Zealand play Mexico and the problems they caused the Mexicans".

"We will look to exploit those tomorrow".

However, they remain many people's favourites to win the tournament and they have a clean bill of health for the last four, with Pizzi confirming that Gary Medel and Claudio Bravo are both fit.

"Overall, there were some really positive signs in the game", he said.

Pizzi, a former Porto striker, also expressed his condolences for the victims of the forest fires that have devastated Portugal in the last two weeks.
