Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) said the FBI's investigation of his wife Jane Sanders won't be a big deal. It also doesn't seem to fit for his wife, who was the president of Burlington College at the time that this bank fraud allegedly took place, suggests his supporters across the social media sites today.

As president of Burlington College in 2010, Sanders secured a $6.7 million loan from People's United Bank, which the college used to purchase a 33-acre lakefront campus for the school. This was part of an expansion project for the small private Vermont college.

"If you talk to the insurance industry, what they will tell you is that [President Donald] Trump and the Republican leadership are sabotaging the Affordable Care Act", he said. Former Burlington College president Carol Moore reports that she was contacted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the Spring of 2016.

A copy of his request to the U.S. Attorney in Vermont claims that Sanders guaranteed $2.6 million to the bank, though she only collected just over $676,000 in contributions and donations. That same year the liberal arts college closed.

Throughout the 2016 campaign and Trump's time in office, Sanders, a former contender for the Democratic presidential nomination, has pressured the president to keep his promise to protect Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security.

Leopold served in Bernie Sanders' mayoral administration in Burlington in the 1980s and later the administration of former Mayor Bob Kiss.

Politico first reported Thursday that Sanders has retained a lawyer amidst the news that the FBI was investigating the bank fraud case.
