Hudson region under severe thunderstorm and flash flood watches

Workweek weather: Week starts with storms; summer officially arrives Approaching cold front brings the chance for more storms Monday
Grace Luna | 20 June, 2017, 01:45

The storms will cap a weekend of high humidity and maintained warmth. Most of the day will be partly sunny, hazy and warm. Low temperatures tomorrow morning will be in the middle to upper 60s.

Severe thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening. While these early storms may grow to strong limits, they're just the appetizer. High winds - 40 miles per hour or more - are also expected with the storms, as a cold front collides with the warm air in the region.

Rainfall of up to 2 inches is expected in northern ME from Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning. It will remain in place through 8 p.m.

Storms will impact the entire area. Multiple rounds of thunderstorms have the potential to move across the same area, leading to flash flooding.

A heavy amount of rain is possible in a short amount of time. "The primary risk with any severe thunderstorm will be damaging wind gusts with hail a secondary concern".

Up to quarter-sized hail is possible, which may result in isolated property damage.

Yes, there is a slight chance for a tornado too.

"We'll likely see some breaks of sun in spots today, with an increasing threat for showers and potentially strong thunderstorms this evening", Hammer said. You should have a way to monitor the weather and warnings as they are issued. Plan to take shelter if/when NWS Sterling issues weather warnings.

NWS also advises to avoid driving or walking through flooded areas.

Stay tuned to weather warning sources (local TV/radio, NOAA weather radio, smartphone apps, etc) and keep an eye to the sky this afternoon. Expect more comfortable and dry conditions for Tuesday and Wednesday. There's a chance for a leftover shower on Tuesday.
