Perez mum on rumors Ronaldo wants to leave Madrid

Delores Daniels | 21 June, 2017, 07:13

"The whole thing is very unusual because Cristiano Ronaldo is a great guy, both as a player and a person".

Spanish radio station Onda Cero say Perez was to "give his version of the 'Ronaldo case"' in an interview with them late last night, while an event marking his re-election was scheduled to be held at 7:30pm at the Bernabeu's presidential box.

The prolific striker scored twice to fire Real to a 4-1 win over Juventus in the Champions League final earlier this month but his future at the club was thrown into doubt last week when Portuguese newspaper A Bola reported that he wanted to leave Spain after being accused of committing tax fraud.

"I have not spoken with Cristiano".

Cristiano Ronaldo remains "extremely concentrated" on helping Portugal at the Confederations Cup, according to head coach Fernando Santos.

The Madrid electoral board met overnight and, with no other candidate putting themselves forward for election ahead of the deadline, it was confirmed that the long-serving Perez would continue in the role, taking his overall stay in the position to 18 years.

Madrid's long-time president said the club had not received any transfer offers for Ronaldo. A judge will decide whether there are grounds to take the matter to court.

Ronaldo has denied any wrongdoing, and Madrid has issued a statement saying it believed the player was innocent.

The 70-year-old Perez, who ran unopposed, was reelected for a fifth four-year mandate at the Spanish powerhouse.

The 32-year-old four-time World Footballer of the Year is alleged to have not paid the correct taxes from 2011 to 2014.
