Rain delays play on Wimbledon's outside courts

Dream team Agassi and Djokovic SW19 briefing by Justin Palmer Published

The opening match on Centre Court was due to start at noon, so the roof was closed for the first time this year. Unfortunately the organisers held out and were caught rather flat footed when it went on to around 9.00pm before Muller emerged a 15-13 victor in the deciding set.

The AELTC released a brief statement providing their rationale for why they did not move Djokovic's match to Centre Court after Roger Federer had completed his match against Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets. Speaking after the match, the second seed said: "It's something I've been dragging back and forth for a while now". (We were told) there were security reasons (for not moving the match). They said, No, it's going to take too long to get the crowd in. I just think it was a wrong decision not to play us last night, because we could have played. "I'm just so blessed and happy that I am not injured today, because we saw worse today". That's all that matters.

One of them has her arms around Djokovic.

The women's quarter-finals are the main course at Wimbledon on Tuesday, but former men's champion Novak Djokovic is serving up a juicy appetiser on Centre Court, where fans were short-changed by player withdrawals a week ago.

Other than a nifty back-to-the-net 'tweener from Federer, it also was a flawless example of what a relatively straightforward, little-drama day it was.

However, the second seed took a medical timeout in the third set to receive further attention on his right shoulder, which had been subject to physio treatment at the previous changeover.

Serena's absence from the running has granted elder sister Venus the licence needed to make Wimbledon's last four for the second year running, which is incredible considering she failed to advance past the fourth round in four of the five tournaments prior to 2016.

There has been a "particularly loud chorus of complaints" this week about the state of the courts, prompting "concerns that the hot, dry weather has made it risky going in to the second week of play", says The Guardian.

I watched the final Lions Test against New Zealand, but I didn't play rugby when I was growing up - which is odd in Scotland, because it's a pretty big sport there - so I don't know loads about it. He will not get overwhelmed by the stadium or whatever.

I know I was nervous but I just had no expectation to do well, so it was completely different to the kind of nerves I get now.
