And he railed against efforts to diversify the company, while slamming the search giant's culture as an "ideological echo chamber where some ideas are too sacred to be honestly discussed".

The person behind the memo - James Damore - has already been fired by Google Bloomberg claims.

Google regularly holds town hall meetings but this one is expected to be a little different in light of the recent memo post.

Damore's 3,3000 word manifesto claims there aren't more women in tech roles due to "biological causes" while also calling Google left-leaning with a "politically correct monoculture".

Whether cutting short his time off - along with that of other Google executives who were supposed to be on vacation this week - turns out to be worth it will depend on how well he can unite the company's global workforce later today.

Damore told NBC News he was "wrongfully terminated" for "perpetuating gender stereotypes" and said he believed his firing was "for political reasons". Despite the fact that his memo was created and shared internally a month ago, no one from the company's management warned him about possible repercussions of sharing it more widely, he said.

The Google employee memo, which gained attention online over the weekend, begins by saying that only honest discussion will address a lack of equity.

Damore said in the email he was exploring his legal options. The note spoke on the notion that women are less interested in high-stress jobs because they are more anxious and even looked to rationalize the gender gap in the tech industry.

James Damore said he filed a complaint against Google before he was sacked on Monday.

Google is now under investigation by the U.S. Department of Labor over claims it did not fairly pay some female employees.

Apparently, one person's memo made people uncomfortable enough to miss work the next day, even when that person was sacked that day.

Google may also potentially face a legal challenge from James Damore, the engineer who wrote the memo, and who was sacked on Monday.

"It's demoralizing", said the worker, who requested The Guardian keep her identity secret for fear of retribution.
