In reply to farewell felicitations by members, Mr Ansari said deviations from this golden rule contribute neither to diligent policy making nor to the claim to be mature democracy based on Rule of Law. Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded his valuable contributions in conducting the proceedings of the Upper House during his 10-year-long tenure.

Meanwhile, reacting to the Hamid Ansari's statement, BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain said that there is no better country than India for Muslims and no better friends than Hindus.

Ansari told the truth, considered Congress speaker Pratap Singh Bajwade, who extended the problem to other minorities such as Christians, Sikhs and Buddhists. "Observing you, I saw mannerisms of a career diplomat".

Modi said Ansari did his best to uphold the Constitution. Speaking to journalist Karan Thapar, the vice president minced no words when he said that a sense of insecurity is creeping in among Muslims. The vice-president-elect then pointed out that "compared to the entire world, the minorities are more safe and secure in India and they get their due". "Even after retirement, your work was the same - be it the Minority Commission or Aligarh University (where Ansari was vice-chairman), your circle was the same", he said. "Also, what Naidu has said is true- saying that this was nothing but a "political propaganda" is absolutely correct".

Responding to questions on triple talaq, Ansari said it is a social aberration, not a religious requirement. Either way, if Ansari is right or wrong every body India has the freedom to speak for themselves.

"That's my impression. And I'm not the only one in the country.when young boys and girls come out on to the streets and throw stones day after day, week after week, month after month, it's something to worry about because they are our children, they are our citizens".

He brought order in the House enabling the government to complete its business and such decisions could help others to understand how to improve its functioning, Modi said at a farewell function in honour of the vice president in Parliament House complex. In fact the tone of almost every farewell speech was adulatory even as the Twitterverse was exploding over an interview the outgoing vice president had given to Rajya Sabha TV the day before. Though Ansari did not name any political party in his interview to RSTV, his comments were seen as aimed at BJP, which has been accused of promoting "majoritarianism". He served as Rajya Sabha Chairman for 10 years from 2007 to 2017.
