House Republicans Push for Details on Trump-Democrat DACA Deal

Evelin Hernandez 27 cries as she holds a sign reading UC System urging 'dreamers' to renew permits and seek legal counsel

The complaint was filed less than a day after President Trump met with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of NY and agreed to protect certain immigrants brought illegally into the U.S.as children and enhancements to US border security.

Trump said Thursday morning that he was "fairly close" to a deal with congressional leaders on a permanent legislative fix for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program in return for "massive border security".

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Thursday that President Trump is committed to building the border wall.

That suggestion is a departure from Trump's comments just hours before, when he talked to reporters before traveling to Florida on Thursday morning. Three days later, the university sued the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in federal court, making it the first university to file a lawsuit in opposition of President Donald Trump's DACA repeal.

And then there's Trump's suggestion that any deal on immigration (i.e. DACA) must come with "an understanding" that funding for a border wall would be worked towards at a later date.

Pushed on how that wasn't amnesty in the eyes of Trump's supporters, Walters demurred and said she would not "sit here and litigate" what constituted amnesty. Her unfiltered, brash, populist conservatism seemed to align with the goals of the Trump campaign and its figureheads from day one. "Really! They have been in our country for many years through no fault of their own - brought in by parents at young age".

After hearing this, Iowa Congressman Steve King said this will hurt Trump's support base.

But the biggest contradiction of all was when Mr. Trump said that nobody wants to deport the young immigrants, "Does anybody really want to throw out good, educated and accomplished young people who have jobs, some serving in the military?"

As the future of DACA is uncertain for the next six months, colleges must prepare for congress' decision.

The UC System is standing with DACA recipients and announced its decision to sue the Trump Administration because the decision to end the program "threatens the future of many of our nation's brightest minds, including thousands who now attend or have graduated from the University of California".

The DREAM Act will be a tough sell for many Republicans, who say it grants amnesty to undocumented immigrants.

Ohio's U.S. Senators have both said they want to find a way to allow DACA recipients to stay in the U.S.

All that President Trump did is to say, "We will follow the law that Congress passed". Trump said there was no deal.

He said "there was no deal" and denied that Democrats claimed otherwise.

"Mostly it's emotional support", Middlehof said, "because of the uncertainty".

Shumate said the decision was made to "wind down" the program and delaying the deadline for renewals risked a later crush of applications that would overwhelm employees tasked with handling them.

"As long as we put conservative values and conservative ideas and roll back the last eight years of the Obama Administration, them I'm all on board", Mullin added.
