As photos depicting the devastation already caused by Hurricane Irma circulate online, astronauts at the International Space Station captured jarring images the enormous storm swirling toward Florida.

Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE) is another way that scientists measure a hurricane season using the combined wind energy a storm produces during a set time period. Over the last three days, Irma, Jose, and, to a lesser extent, Katia have been working overtime.

Georgia is bracing for potentially far-flung impacts from Hurricane Irma, which forecasters say could swamp the coast with storm surge near Savannah and topple trees and power lines in Atlanta.

According to Mexico's National Meteorological Service, Hurricane Katia will hit the state of Veracruz Friday evening or Saturday morning. Farther out in the Atlantic, Hurricane Jose has nearly hit Category 5 strength, with tops winds of 155 miles per hour.

Hurricane Katia is relatively stationary, about 200 miles east of Tampico, Mexico as of 11am ET.

Unlike Hurricane Irma's path, Hurricane Jose is forecast to move north and away from Puerto Rico and remain in the Atlantic Ocean, avoiding numerous chains of Caribbean islands that Irma has wrecked.

Irma is the first storm in recorded history that has maintained top winds of 185 miles per hour for 37 straight hours.

It has been hurtling through the Caribbean been moving with sustained winds of close to 150mph - here's the latest on the hurricane. A hurricane watch is in effect from Cabo Rojo to the northern border of the state.

Due to a large patch of dry air over Louisiana and Texas, Katia will not move northward into Hurricane Harvey-devastated areas, Accuweather reported.
