He called on China and Russian Federation in particular to use their ultimate leverage over North Korea.

National security adviser H.R. McMaster, right, and U.S. Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley, participate in a news briefing at the White House, in Washington, Friday, Sept. 15, 2017.

The North Korean state-run newspaper Rodong Sinmun on Friday said in an editorial, "If the USA continues to walk on the current course, we will take stronger actions for our self-defense".

"We're out of time", McMaster said.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said on Twitter, "North Korea's missile launch is another reckless breach of United Nations resolutions - a major threat to worldwide peace and security which demands a global response".

President Donald Trump has responded to North Korea's most recent missile launch with a vow that the United States and its allies will not be intimidated.

North Korea fired a ballistic missile over the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido Friday local time, the latest in a stream of missile tests that have looked to defy the global community.

The White House said on Friday (Sept 15) that President Donald Trump will meet the leaders of Japan and South Korea in NY next week to discuss the "urgent" threat posed by North Korea and dismissed claims there was no military option to dealing with Pyongyang.

President Trump will embark on a whirlwind series of meetings this week at the United Nations General Assembly to make two big requests of world powers: Stand with us against North Korea, and hold the line against Iran's nuclear program.

Those arguments were buttressed from within Trump's administration last month when Steven Bannon concurred that America was essentially bluffing about military options, shortly before he was pushed out as the president's strategic adviser.

"There are no shortage of issues, with North Korea being front and center", said Haley.

Standing before a B-2 stealth bomber and a vast USA flag, Donald Trump on Friday lashed out at North Korea warned that advanced U.S. weaponry could make the souls of America's enemies "crumble".

In August, North Korea launched a ballistic missile over Japan from a region near Pyongyang.

Promoting an "America First" agenda at the United Nations.

McMaster said that reform of the U.N.is very much on the table at the meeting in general, with focus on ideas for making the notoriously inefficient organization, whose biennial core budget is $5.4 billion, more streamlined.

South Korea's military reported the missile reached an altitude of about 770 kilometers (475 miles) and flew 3,700 kilometers (2,300 miles), far enough to reach the U.S. Pacific territory of Guam. She expected a Trump call for maximum pressure on North Korea.
