The incident occurred at Columbus Scioto 6-12 school.

A few minutes later, police also tweeted, "Media, please follow us on social media for all updates".

An active shooter was reported at Scioto High School in Columbus, Ohio, according to the Columbus Police Department.

Columbus police requested people retweet the news that they'd made an arrest, have the gun and that no one was injured. A gun was recovered at the school.

Counselors will be there Monday for teachers and staff and on Tuesday for students.

Ian Addis says staff members routinely search students. "They make us take our shoes off".

"I heard the gunshots", said Ian Addis, a 9th grader at the school. "We all went into a lockdown and we had to just go hide near the lockers", Ian Addis told the newspaper.

She said today's incident has not shaken her faith in the school.

A message was left for a Columbus schools spokesman.

Officers made the arrest at 8:58 a.m. Officers continue to search the building as a precaution, but the suspect is in police custody. "Excellent job by our officers!"
