"I will perform my duties to the best of my abilities,". Gajendra Chauhan's tenure under the Arun Jaitley headed Ministry of Information and Broadcasting was mired with controversy, upheavals, and chaos with students taking on the administration with protests.

Bollywood filmmaker and actor Anupam Kher is the new chairman of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune. Since its inception in 1960, the institute has become India's premier film and television institute, with its alumni becoming technicians, actors and directors in the film and television industry. Earlier, Kher held the post of chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification and the National School of Drama.

Following the appointment of Chauhan, FTII had witnessed over 130 days of strike where students had raised concerns over not getting scholarships and malfunctions of FTII under Chauhan's leadership.

Appointed in 2014 to head the prestigious body, Chauhan, a well-known film and television personality, took charge only in January 2016 when he entered the FTII campus for the first time and chaired the Governing Council meeting. "But certainly, TII needs somebody who is much more qualified than whatever Ganjendra ji's qualifications are coming across", Kher had said according to a PTI report. He will succeed Gajendra Chauhan. "As a student I can say his mentoring has been a boon".
