"The GOP needs to put points on the board in both the House and the Senate".

The House passed the ban on late-term abortions shortly after 6 p.m.by a vote of 237-189, mostly along party lines. Lisa Murkowski, usually thought of as pro-choice, did not vote.

While the 2017 Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act has the support of most House Republicans, and has already been endorsed by President Trump, it faces major opposition in the Senate.

At a time when Americans are focused on the mass murder in Las Vegas, the U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday passed a bill protecting life.

"The Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act will protect the voiceless, the vulnerable, and the marginalized".

My son-a boy whom I named Joshua-was not 20 weeks like the unborn children this act seeks to protect, but I am certain that he suffered greatly as he burned to death from the saline solution. "Our Creator, who gave us those inalienable rights, is the one who made each and every one of us - and because of that there's a central truth that comes through".

Rep. Trent Franks, R-Ariz, is a co-sponsor of the bill.

"The only difference between killing a baby born alive and aborting them just prior to birth is location".

Troy Newman, the president of Operation Rescue, one of the leading pro-life organizations, issued a statement warning GOP lawmakers that not voting in favor of the bill is "political suicide".

"It's science: unborn babies feel pain by at least 20 weeks".

Such claims rely on subjective interpretations of "late term" and "elective". "We urge the Senate to follow the House's lead and send this bill to President Trump so he can sign this life affirming legislation into law", concluded Perkins.

When asked Monday if the chamber would take up the legislation, the majority whip, Sen. The measure is a major pro-life legislative priority, but it is expected to fail in the Senate. "Many of the cases of people seeking termination after 20 weeks may be handling these really sad problems". Those who received financial assistance for their abortions planned to travel an average of 140 miles for it.

"It's likely a tactic to decrease access to abortion without overtly overturning Roe v. Wade", Gretchen Ely, an associate professor at the University of Buffalo's School of Social Work, said by phone.

The U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear a case in 2014 involving Arizona's 20-week abortion ban, which was blocked by lower courts.

The House of Representatives passed a bill on Tuesday that would threaten prison time or fines for doctors who perform abortions after 20 weeks. Critics maintain the science is iffy, and cite a FactCheck.org page that interviewed experts who say, while a fetus might react at 20 weeks, it is not clear it is feeling pain.

Currently, abortions are legal nationwide until a fetus is viable outside the womb, but states can enact laws to limit the procedure. If an abortion is performed after that date, it's usually due to "very complex circumstances", such as fetal anomalies and risks to the pregnant woman's health. Previously, a similar bill had failed because of resistance of Democrats.

But the majority of Americans agree with criminalizing abortions after the second trimester. "We have to ban these late-term abortions".
