However, Van Ert became trapped in the store's walk-in cooler at midnight, when its lock automatically engaged.
A man who got locked inside a convenience store beer cooler overnight didn't get bitter or hop back outside - he got busy instead, police said.
According to Milwaukee ABC affiliateWISN, Jeremy Van Ert was locked inside the walk-in cooler at Kwik Trip in Marshfield around 11:50 p.m, and although the temperature was unbearable - 32 degrees Fahrenheit - the 38-year-old chose to not yell for help.
According to the police report, Van Ert drank an 18-oz. bottle of Icehouse beer and three cans of Four Loko.
He said, "The subject found himself locked within the beer cooler (and) knew that Kwik Trip would not sell him any beer after midnight".
Van Ert remained in the cooler until 6 a.m. Wednesday, when a customer noticed him and alerted employees.
Police issued the man a citation for theft. He also knocked over and busted three 30-packs of Busch Light.
Van Ert is being held in jail on a probation violation for the incident, because a condition of his probation on a previous case required him to stay sober, WAOW reported.
