OKC Thunder plane damaged in mid-air; Delta says bird likely responsible

The Thunder is scheduled to play the Bulls tonight at the United Center.

The nose of the plane is completely crumpled in, as if it had been punched by a giant fist in the air, and Delta's explanation of how it happened makes the picture even more incredible.

"We had a rough flight to say the least".

The team's charter flight to Chicago apparently encountered a bird during descent that crushed the nose of the plane.

They were traveling from Minneapolis where they had earlier been defeated by the Minnesota Timberwolves when the damage was caused.

Thankfully no one was injured, and the Thunder players can breathe easy and give a little thanks, as Carmelo Anthony did in his Instagram post.

Player Patrick Patterson fed fans' fun.

Elizabeth Wolf, a spokeswoman for Delta, said she believes the plane hit a bird as the plane descended into Chicago about 12:45 a.m. The aircraft, a Boeing 757-200, landed without incident and customers deplaned normally.

On Sunday, Delta confirmed the damage and that all players and team staff were safe. "Safety is Delta's top priority".

Multiple players took to social media to post about the freakish situation, but the team said everyone is safe and sound, and the flight landed as planned and on schedule at Midway International Airport.

It is not the first time a bird has caused such damage during a flight.
