Aston Martin Valkyrie: Track version of car designed by Adrian Newey
17 November, 2017, 01:54
Aston Martin provided the first details on the track-only version of its upcoming Valkyrie hypercar. The price? Well, considering the standard Valkyrie is said to cost between $2.6 and $4 million, the AMR Pro will undoubtedly be more than that - think more in the region of $5 million.
A lot of this driving performance comes thanks to the overhauled aerodynamics.
Aston hasn't released any Valkyrie AMR Pro specs, but we've heard the Valkyrie street auto will produce around 1130 hp and weigh just under 2300 lbs. Aston estimates that the top speed of the Valkyrie AMR Pro is close to 250 miles per hour. "This much is obvious from the AMR Pro's running gear alone, which sees the 20" front and 21" rear wheels of the road vehicle replaced by 18" items on both axles. Why? After all, it's no longer a road auto. Output for the car's Rimac Energy Recovery System will remain the same but its control systems will be reprogrammed for optimum track output. In addition, for the sake of reducing the mass of the vehicle Aston Martin has made a decision to abandon the installation of the climate control and multimedia system. Or looked at in simple terms, the monstrous V12 no longer needs to meet stringent emissions regulations if it's only going to pound around a track.
The Aston Martin Valkyrie is already promising to be a vehicle which sets new benchmarks for what a road auto can do, but as a road vehicle it does need to stay within certain limits. Lighter polycarbonate windows and carbon fiber are used all around the auto.
However, what promises to send the Valkyrie AMR Pro into really uncharted territory is the upgrade to its already extreme aero package.
To help it achieve those lofty specs, the Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro will also get some aerodynamic upgrades with larger wings on the front and rear. Those lucky enough to take delivery will have access to Red Bull's driver training facilities, including time in the simulator and professional on-track tuition, plus programmes to improve physical fitness. Maximum corning G for the hardcore Valkyrie is quoted at a phenomenal 3.3g. As tends to be the modern way, the firm notes that all of the AMR Pros are already sold.
As with the before it, Aston Martin placed even more emphasis on aerodynamics over the "standard" version of the vehicle. However, for the same money you could fund a few seasons in top level sports auto racing, including appearances in the Le Mans 24-hours.
Inside, the Valkyrie's small attempts at luxury have been removed in the pursuit of faster lap times.
