Rolling out soon, wait times on Google Search (and coming soon to Maps) shows you the estimated wait at your favorite restaurants.

Google is already showing a lot of information about businesses, from the basics like opening hours through to what their busiest times are. Google is adding new detail with information about actual wait times and projected wait times to help hungry consumers plan their visits for a bite to eat. This could come in particularly handy for those bars and restaurants that don't take reservations (looking at you, Monk's). You can also see a summary of each days wait times so you can try to go at a quieter time. In addition, Google will tell you how long people typically spend at the restaurant.

Wait times will initially be available for mobile and desktop search before becoming a Google Maps feature. Similar to the busy times, a bar graph will show you the busiest times. Now though, in a development we can't believe didn't happen sooner, Google will show you the wait times of almost a million sit-down restaurants around the world. The predictions are cobbled together using Google's cache of "anonymized historical data", the industry's trick for calculating popular times at businesses.
