Buccaneers head coach Dirk Koetter announced Monday that team doctors chose to sideline the quarterback for at least two weeks based on MRI results.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston will be sidelined for "at least two weeks" having aggravated an injury to his throwing arm.

Winston did not play in the second half of the Bucs' 30-10 loss at the New Orleans Saints - their fifth loss in a row that dropped Tampa Bay to 2-6 in a season that opened with so much promise.

Winston initially sustained an AC joint sprain in his right shoulder in a 38-33 loss at the Arizona Cardinals on October 15. He originally suffered the injury in a Week 6 loss to the Cardinals.

Fitzpatrick will make his first start of the season against the team he started 27 games for from 2015-17.

Before this week, Winston had only thrown one day a week because of the injury.

The Bucs also plan to activate third-string quarterback Ryan Griffin, who is on injured reserve but can return.

On Sunday, Winston completed 7-of-13 for 63 yards with no touchdowns or no interceptions. In the game against Arizona, Fitzpatrick went 22-for-32 for 290 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions while replacing Winston.
