Tommy Fleetwood capitalised on a poor back nine from fellow Briton Justin Rose to be crowned the Race to Dubai victor on the final day of the European Tour season yesterday.

Lee Westwood (2009), McIlroy (2012, 2015) and Stenson (2013) are the only players to win the DP World Tour Championship and claim the Race to Dubai title. A victory on Sunday for either Fleetwood or Rose would clinch the Race to Dubai title, but Burmester and Frittelli will be looking to spoil any double celebrations for the money-leaders.

He stumbled to a bogey on 17 and finished with a par to sign for a 68.

"I'm not trying to win the Race to Dubai".

The English world No6 was leading by one shot after 11 holes of blemish-free golf, and with Fleetwood struggling to post a good score it looked like the 37-year-old was set for a double celebration at the end of the day. "From 11 and 12 onwards it was hard not to think about what Justin was doing".

"It's been a big year, baby Frankie arriving safely and he's great, I'm going to get married in a couple of weeks".

"You want the grandstand finish, you want to do something unbelievable to win it, but it doesn't always work out that way and a year's graft has come down to this. It's very special", said Fleetwood.

Rose withstood a stiff test of his nerve by Fleetwood who, after a poor first day, has fought back with successive 65s, including eight birdies in his last 11 holes on Saturday.

"I know what I need to do to stay at the top of the leaderboard", said Rose. "I don't know how I shot two-under".

"Tommy... I'm pleased for him". He's battled hard all year.

The season-ending tournament was won by Spain's Jon Rahm, who fired a final-round 67 for a 19 under total of 269.

"It was a really frustrating day", the Greystones star told Meridian Media after his putting deserted him and he compiled a round featuring two eagle threes, just two birdies and four bogeys.
