Sooner National Championship Teams Visit White House

While the White House says President Donald Trump will host collegiate sports championship teams Friday in Washington, the SC women's basketball team will not be among them.

It's customary for the president to host title-winning NCAA teams.

On Thursday, the team finally got their invite to attend the White House on Friday, but they passed. But as with nearly everything else in 2017, things are way different in the age of Trump.

The NBA's Golden State Warriors and about half of the NFL's New England Patriots skipped celebrating their respective championship wins in Washington D.C. with the president. This prompted fellow National Basketball Association superstar Lebron James to write the infamous, "You Bum" tweet. So, let's just say the current administration has had some issues when it comes to sports.

South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley answers questions during the Southeastern Conference women's NCAA college basketball media day in Nashville Tenn. President Donald Trump is set to host collegiate sport
Dawn Staley the coach of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks said her team would not be going to the White House Friday

The Gamecocks won the national championship in April, after they knocked off Stanford in the Final Four, then took down SEC foe Mississippi State in the championship game after the Bulldogs beat perennial champ UConn in epic fashion.

While scheduling conflicts are likely the most pressing reasons why these collegiate teams aren't attending the White House visit, it's also likely that other factors might be at play.

"We haven't gotten an invitation yet and that in itself speaks volumes", Staley said, per Doug Feinberg of the Associated Press. Staley wondered publicly where it was as other teams were invited - or dis-invited, as National Basketball Association champion Golden State was after star Stephen Curry and Trump locked horns - before the Gamecocks were.
