According to an AFP report, the victim, who has not been identified yet, was stabbed more than 100 times and then his body was buried in a park near the U.S. capital.

As many as 10 members of the MS-13 gang lured a man into a USA park, stabbed him more than 100 times, decapitated him and then cut out his heart, a court has heard. Court documents say the gang ripped his heart from his chest and threw it into the grave with his body. An informant led police to a shallow grave and "detailed the choking, stabbing, decapitating and dismembering". He is said to have been lured to a park where he was attacked.

Natasha Aeriel, the sister of one of the murder victims, was shot in the head but survived to testify at three criminal trials, which resulted in all six assailants being convicted or pleading guilty and sentenced to a combined 1,063 years in prison. The victim's identity has yet to be confirmed, police said.

Initially, Lopez-Abrego was only charged with interfering with an arrest as US marshals worked with Avery County deputy sheriffs to apprehend Portillo-Rodriguez, an official with the sheriff's office said. The attack is believed to have been carried out by the gang in early spring this year, officers write in the Statement of Charges.

Court douments suggest that the group had planned the murder for upwards of two weeks: They apparently "waited near the edge of the wood line with a handheld walkie-talkie radio to alert the other suspects of the victim's arrival".

The victim killed in the Wheaton park was described by police as a Hispanic man possibly from Annapolis, Maryland. He had short, dark brown hair and was missing a bottom tooth near the front of his mouth. In September, investigators released several photos of clothing and a rosary that were found with him.

He was wearing a gray sweatshirt with the words, "First United Methodist Church Laurel" and blue athletic shorts with the number 19 on them underneath a pair of black sweatpants. And in another case, an 18-year-old was ambushed near a stream and stabbed and stoned before he died under a bridge of the Capital Beltway.
