AMZN 0.41% rang in its biggest holiday season ever. "More than one billion items were ordered from small businesses and entrepreneurs worldwide this season - and over just five days, from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday, almost 140 million items were ordered from small businesses and entrepreneurs".

One eye-catching figure: More than 4 million people signed up for Prime free trials or began paid memberships in a one-week period, according to Amazon. The Echo Dot led the sales of "tens of millions" of Alexa-enabled devices worldwide, according to the company, which said Echo Dot, Echo Spot, and Echo Buttons sold out this holiday season. Exact numbers haven't been given, but Amazon does say that the Echo Dot and Fire TV Stick were the best-selling products from any manufacturer in any category across all of Amazon. From Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday, 140 million items were ordered from small businesses and entrepreneurs.

You can view the full press release on Amazon's press release website. "We look forward to another great year ahead".

However, the company has never announced how many Prime members it has; as of September 2017, Amazon Prime had about 90 million US members (up 38%), according to estimates by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners.

The top five items ordered through a mobile device include: the Echo Dot, Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote and the TP-Link Smart Plug.

Customers worldwide shopping on the Amazon App increased almost 70% this holiday season.

The company's popular product, Amazon Alexa, which is a voice-based assistant software behind Amazon Echo, was the most downloaded app on Christmas Day in both Apple Store and Google Play, two virtual stores for the iOS and Android mobile operating systems.

Amazon's strong holiday season is likely to keep many investors excited over its future prospects.

The last Prime Now order that was completed in time for Christmas was delivered in 58 minutes at 11:58 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
