Amazon Company is expanding its emphasis on Southeast part of Asia after the internet business monster propelled its Prime administration in the country Singapore.

This will largely be of interest to merchants who sell on Amazon.com, as Prime Singapore offers free 2-hour delivery on tens of thousands of items but more importantly free worldwide delivery on millions more items from Amazon US.

The introductory price for a membership is at $2.99 a month.

In July, the retailer added a two-hour delivery service in Southeast Asia as it is putting more effort into a market that could be very profitable for it.

Amazon Handmade products are available via Prime Now for members in Austin, Texas; Brooklyn and Manhattan, N.Y.; Minneapolis; Phoenix; Portland, Ore.; Raleigh, N.C.; San Diego; the San Francisco Bay Area and Seattle through the holiday season.

But customers who do not have a Prime membership in the USA can enjoy free delivery within the country for orders totalling US$25 or more on eligible items.

However, he encouraged "anyone living in Singapore to leverage the Prime membership package developed specifically for Singapore" and noted that Prime membership is country-specific and not transferable, which means that those with US Prime memberships can not convert them to local ones. Starting from this week, in any case, it is putting forth its full Prime package which incorporates the free global transporting on orders of over SG$40 and memberships to its Prime Video administration and Prime Twitch advertising.

Lazada, the region's largest e-commerce site, launched its own membership programme in April called LiveUp in anticipation of Amazon's entry to Singapore, and the company said it now has "hundreds of thousands" of members. Benefits offered include rebates and discounts for online supermarket RedMart, Netflix and Uber.

This follows news that the American e-commerce giant has ended its FREE AmazonGlobal Saver Shipping service yesterday, 5 December.

But administrative assistant J. Tan, 38, said he was disappointed that items he had been eyeing, such as the Nintendo Switch game console, are not available through the Prime Now app and no longer qualify for free shipping on the U.S. store.

While benefits are only restricted to the mobile app, Ghani said that more will be added in the future for Prime membership in Singapore.

Amazon.com will offer last-minute delivery of pottery, necklaces, candles and other handmade products ordered as late as Christmas Eve in nine USA cities, including Seattle, looking to win orders from competing arts-and-crafts marketplace Etsy.
