"In 1990s, the reforms were taken under compulsion but the government under prime minister (Narendra) Modi is undertaking the reforms by conviction", he said.

Arun Jaitley stressed the importance of Gujarat for BJP and reiterated that the party has been winning and serving the state since the past two decades.

While referring to Maharashtra Congress secretary Shehzad Poonawalla's comments on the upcoming Congress president election, PM Modi said, " I want to tell this youngster Shehzad- you have done a fearless thing but this is sadly what has always happened in the Congress. Media had to ask Indiraji (late prime minister Indira Gandhi) before publishing something.

"Modiji, do tell Gujarat and country about the victims of yours and Amit Shah's internal democracy in BJP, namely - Lal Krishan Advani, Keshubhai Patel, Hiren Pandya, Kanshiram Rana, Anandiben Patel, Murli Manohar Joshi, Sanjay Joshi, who were compulsorily lost in pages of history".

Addressing an election rally in Bharuch, Modi said, "Bharuch and Kutch are districts with significant Muslim populations".

Meanwhile, briefing media in Ahmedabad, state Congress President Bharatsinh Solanki said, Congress will announce its poll manifesto tomorrow. We saw what happened in UP.

In Bharuch, Modi accused the Congress of stoking a Hindu-Muslim divide. He said that before the BJP came into power in Gujarat, "social polarisation" was rampant in the state. "UP knows the Congress well and so does Gujarat", he said. The rallies are designed so that Modi can reach out to voters in three or four surrounding constituencies through every public meeting.
