With snow still falling, Laurel reports 4.5 inches, Stockley 4.3 inches and Lewes 2.5 inches.

The first winter storm of the season and come and gone, leaving parts of North Carolina with a blanket of snow.

The snow will intensify in the Northeast by mid-Saturday morning and stay in the region until nightfall, and in New England throughout Saturday night.

A winter storm advisory is in effect for the entire county.

Snow squalls were reported in Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi. More than 400 flights from Atlanta International Airport were canceled on Friday.

Winter storm warnings are in effect from Virginia to MA, according to the National Weather Service -- excluding Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and New York City for now, which are under a winter weather advisory instead. As the storm moved up the Atlantic Coast to the Northeast, the National Weather Service issued warnings for Northeastern New Jersey, Southeastern New York, and Southern Connecticut.

Snow is expected to continue into the evening, and with temperatures now below freezing, some slush-hardening and road icing certainly is possible. Salisbury, Maryland, is expected to see the highest snow total.

As usual, it's a safe bet to stock up on bread and milk, make sure your snow shovel is handy, drive with caution, and enjoy the snow.

Plan on slippery road conditions.
