Three Sears and 10 Kmart stores in Pennsylvania are among dozens set to close their doors this spring, but the retailers' locations in Berks County won't be among them.

Two additional locations at 1477 MacCorkle Avenue in St. Albans and 5636 U.S. Route 60 East in Huntington are also expected to close. Close-out sales will begin January 12. The company says the exact number of employees affected is not available, but a majority of the jobs are part-time. Those two locations were operated under the Sears brand but were not owned by Sears Holdings.

In 2006 the company operated more than 3,000 stores in the US and a few hundred in Canada.

Sears Canada filed for bankruptcy a year ago, and is in the process of shuttering its business entirely.

Sears Holdings, once the largest retailer in the United States, said at the end of October that it operated 1,104 stores, almost half the 2,019 stores it ran in 2012.

The company said the closures are part of an ongoing effort to "right size" its store footprint.

Sears has announced it will close its store in Bangor, Maine.
