Over the past year, Facebook has struggled to combat the spread of fake news and misinformation on its platform. But business was good.

"No matter how well we do on Facebook and how great our videos are, making high-quality videos itself does not bring us any profit", said Cho. If Zuckerberg's statement on Friday is to be believed, he's made a decision to de-emphasise some of the business strategies that make Facebook mountains of cash and reimagine Facebook as a place for friends once again.

Research shows that strengthening our relationships improves our well-being and happiness.

"As we roll this out, you'll see less public content like posts from businesses, brands, and media", Zuckerberg said in a post on his Facebook page. Click the images below in the gallery to get a better understanding. Zuckerberg recognised that videos and other public content have "exploded' on the social media site in the past years". The move seeks to encourage more meaningful interactions between users and their friends and online contacts.

Currently, News Feed has been created to share a mix of "public" content from brands along with posts by friends and family. Forcing tech CEOs like Zuckerberg to justify the unjustifiable, in public-without the shield of spokespeople or PR spin-would go a long way to puncturing their carefully preserved cults of personality in the eyes of their employees.

"This update is more about amplifying the things people value".

Facebook wants to keep deciding for you what you see, so maybe it's a good time to decide, for yourself, to get your news in a more reliable way.

The company says that's similar to how people make friends and interact with each other offline.

Once again, Zuckerberg is pointing towards some sort of return to the old Facebook.

So what does this mean for what you'll see when you scroll through your news feed in the future?

Yes, Zuckerberg has already announced changes, such as favoring interaction with family and friends over businesses.
