Black Caps beat England in tri-series T20

Kane Williamson New Zealand's Kane Williamson bats during the first Twenty20 cricket match between New Zealand and England

Not for the first time this winter, England's bowlers were made to toil in their fourth match of T20 tri-series on Tuesday.

With today's 82-run partnership, the duo of Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson have scored a total partnership runs of 1,129, the second most by any pair in the T20 format. Chapman, now a dual worldwide, became the first player born in Hong Kong to play for a full member side since Dermot Reeve's England debut in May 1991. Dawid Malan fought a lone battle with a valiant 59 and the lower order threatened, but Sodhi, Mitchell Santner and Trent Boult took two wickets each to wrap the game.

Guptill (65) looked positive from the outset hitting four boundaries in the first three overs but the 39-run opening stand ended when Colin Munro (11) pulled a Mark Wood (2-51) delivery to deep square leg and New Zealand ended the powerplay with a score of 50 for one. Australia are already through to the February 21 final.

In their previous two defeats to Australia it was England's batting that failed them, but on this occasion, on a bouncy Wellington pitch, it was their bowling which was called into question as the Black Caps amassed 196-5.

Opener Guptill raced to 65 off 40 including three sixes while captain Williamson accelerated late in his 72 off 46.

Jos Buttler was England captain, with Eoin Morgan still sidelined by injury, and he put the Kiwis into bat because of the uncertain nature of the drop-in pitch at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington.

When they eventually saw the back of him at the end of the 18th over, yorked by Jordan for 72 (his first half-century in 10 innings), the platform had been set for the debutants Mark Chapman and Tim Seifert to share four sixes.

"New Zealand's plans have worked, they won the game".

"It's important we try and get a read of the surface as quickly as possible and get stuck into our work".

'We had a fantastic start, Hales can rival anyone in the world when he's in that kind of form, ' Buttler, who made just two from four balls, said.

"The team were great, we did know how the wicket would play and we were able to build partnerships throughout".

"This is a very strong England side and we had to play some really good cricket".

"[Personal performance] You always want more runs, you always train hard, that's the focus".

Buttler added: "We need a favour from Australia to beat New Zealand".

"They were tough fielding conditions but the way they bowled at the death, they stepped up to the mark today".
