"This has been an extremely rough flu season and the entire country has been hit hard", said Lawton Davis, M.D., health director for the Coastal Health District.

In the latest Respiratory Virus Surveillance Report, the New Jersey Department of Health stated that for the week ending on January 27, all regions of the state had high levels of influenza activity.

A story by YourNewsWire has been making the rounds on social media, and claims that this year's flu shot is responsible for multiple deaths. After its case peak, the flu epidemic will slowly decline until about August.

Kentucky is in its seventh consecutive week of widespread flu activity which is the highest level of flu activity and indicates increased flu-like activity or flu outbreaks in at least half of the regions in the state.

The hope is to provide some additional protection and possibly reduce the spread of the virus and the length of the flu season.

In the 2016-17 flu season, which runs from September to August, there were 178 cases. It will also cover topics related to hand washing reminders and proper hand washing techniques. A very contagious strain of influenza type A called H3N2 has been causing most of the cases of the flu in the USA and is associated with more hospitalizations, and more deaths than other strains, according to the CDC.

The Broome County Health Department is seeing its highest number of flu cases on record. "These steps, I will shout into the void until sweet merciful death claims me, include getting your flu shot". We especially recommend that all healthy Kentuckians aged six months and older be vaccinated.

Federal officials don't think the flu has peaked yet, and there may be several more weeks before the risk of flu or serious illness subsides. There are ample supplies available throughout the state.

The health department tweeted out today that children should remain home until they are fever-free without the use of medication for a full 24 hours.

The flu can be highly contagious and cause potentially life-threatening disease.

More common, nonemergency symptoms of the flu can include fever and chills, cough, sore throat, runny nose, headache or body ache, fatigue, vomiting or diarrhea, according to ACEP. If you get sick with flu symptoms and are at high risk of flu complications or you are concerned about your illness, call your health care provider for advice.

In a typical year, the flu kills about 36,000 people in the US, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Martin said people who feel sick should stay home to avoid spreading the flu.

The more employees who come to work sick with the flu, the greater chances that the flu will spread in your workplace, causing workers to be off from work.
