"You just have to play well at the right times and against the right competition".

The U.S. opens the men's hockey tournament against Slovenia on Wednesday (6:10 a.m. Madison time) before playing Slovakia on Friday (9:10 p.m. Thursday in Madison) and the Russian team on Saturday (6:10 a.m.in Madison). They're coming off a ideal showing at the 2017 Asian Winter Games, where they outscored opponents - and this is completely serious - by a combined score of 98-1. (Fun fact turned up in said search: Goloubef's great uncle is Dick Duff, the hall-of-famer who was named the 28th greatest Maple Leaf in franchise history by a panel of experts in 2016).

"When I got that phone call saying I made the team, it was an unbelievable feeling", McCarthy says, "something I dreamed about when I was a kid". "I want to be able to have that feeling again". And the 6-foot-5, 230 pound forward was thrust further into the spotlight after winning gold at the World Juniors previous year. The Swedish won Olympic medals in 2002 and 2006, including a shocking upset of Team USA in the semifinals 12 years ago, but they've finished fourth at the past two Olympic tournaments.

Since graduating from Cornell in 2015, she moved to Calgary, where the headquarters of the Hockey Canada national program is located, and plays for the Calgary Inferno of the Canadian Women's Hockey League.

As a kid, Greenway proved to be a natural on the ice, beginning when he first put on skates at the early age of 3.

Ebbett, who bounced around the AHL and NHL for almost a decade, most recently with the Pittsburgh Penguins organization from 2013-2015, plays in the Swiss League, the fourth professional faction represented among Canada's leadership group.

Hockey was everywhere in the upstate NY town of Canton where he grew up - not far from the Canadian border. Despite their competitive nature in the rink, the two have encouraged each other to be great hockey players. As he said, Greenway is a "heck of a hockey player".

"There wasn't a lot of African-Americans playing and I think, honestly, outside of my brother and I, I can't think of a ton.so I just kind of grew up around it and it was kinda the norm", Greenway said.

Tony Granato, the head hockey coach at the University of Wisconsin, will coach the group of young athletes.

The Greenway brothers are helping to change the face of hockey.

"She's my best friend and definitely a big reason why I'm here today", Saulnier said of Johnston. "You want your guys to know each other as quickly as they can and believe in each other so when they step on the ice they trust each other".

"It's no secret that there's not as many African-Americans playing hockey", Greenway said.

If the game is tied at the end of the regulation time, then it becomes overtime.

"I can't describe the pride I feel in representing my country at the Olympics".

His coach, David Quinn, says it's an incredible opportunity and is excited for Greenway.

Kelleher, a former college player himself (Brown), took over as executive director of USA Hockey and The USA Hockey Foundation last June. "But it's a deserving honor". He was told that he was selected to play by his coach late previous year and said it was the "greatest Christmas present" he ever received. "It's going to be a good group". Because the gold medal games take place during regular hours, an extension isn't needed. Know that mom will be watching you from home. "The talk that we have amongst each other is not for show or anything, we genuinely support each other", he said.

Olympic hockey differs from NHL hockey in several different ways, the bigger ice surface being the most glaring.

Tony Granato understands that many hockey fans will be disappointed that NHL players will not be taking part in these Olympics, but says these games in South Korea will be wide open, adding this United States of America team has a chance to leave their own mark in Olympic lure. "So, I've done it as a player, as a fan, as an assistant coach in Sochi with National Hockey League players and now I get to go back to the Olympic stage and there's nothing better as an athlete or as an American than to wear the red, white and blue and go to an Olympic stage", said Granato.
