Minnesota Vikings deny Giants of Kevin Stefanski interview

One major hurdle-Minnesota promoting him to replace Shurmur as the team's offensive coordinator-has been cleared, with ESPN's Adam Schefter reporting that the Vikings have made a decision to hire Philadelphia's quarterbacks coach, John DeFilippo, to take over as the team's playcaller.

Now, Stefanski has served the Vikings loyally during his tenure, and he has likely been served well by the Vikings organization during that time.

Kevin Stefanski is Pat Shurmur's top choice to take over as offensive coordinator for the New York Giants, sources tell Alex Marvez of the Sporting News.

Stefanski spent the 2014 and 2015 seasons as the Vikings' tight ends coach, was the running backs coach in 2016 and then began coaching the quarterbacks this season. Foles was named MVP of Super Bowl LII and had 725 yards with six touchdowns in the Eagles' playoff wins over the Vikings and New England Patriots. "So we're going to take pieces from other places I've been, take pieces from Philadelphia and at the same time, obviously there are a lot of good things that the Minnesota Vikings did previous year that we're going to continue to do".

Shurmur prior to his two-year stint in Minnesota was Chip Kelly's offensive coordinator for three years in Philly, when Kelly had three different QB coaches from 2013-15.

By all accounts, Stefanski is a very intelligent and talented young coach. He had been with the Eagles the past two seasons. That came a day after the Vikings' season ended with a thud in a 38-7 loss in Philadelphia. I believe they are in the contracts that both sides willingly sign. "I said, 'I don't even want to talk about it, because the more I talk about it, that's time I'm taking away from the quarterbacks of the Philadelphia Eagles.' That's not fair to them, that's not fair to the team".

But in this case, perhaps, one side exceeded expectations. They shouldn't just stick to their contract, rather reach into the coffers to show Stefanski exactly what they think of him and let him know what is coming his way.

Instead DeFilippo, who was an offensive quality control coach for the Giants under Tom Coughlin in 2005-06, is headed to the team that the Eagles beat to win the NFC.

"I think I've lost count, but I think this is my 18th or 19th move", DeFilippo said.

This would appear to have been a rough couple of weeks for Kevin Stefanski.
