Winter Olympics 2018: Parrot, McMorris saving 'all the magic' for slopestyle final

Pyeongchang Olympics Snowboard Men Winter Olympics 2018: Parrot, McMorris saving 'all the magic' for slopestyle final

On Saturday afternoon, the 17-year-old from Silverthorne, Colorado, became the lone USA rider to qualify into Sunday's snowboard slopestyle finals, while his mom, dad and all six of his siblings cheered him on from the friends and family section at the bottom of the course.

Gerard said nothing as he waited for Parrot's score.

The win was a dramatic one. after falling on his first two runs and dropping to 11th place.

Gerard wasn't even born when snowboarding made its Olympic debut 20 years ago, and he now ranks as the sport's youngest US medalist.

Wearing the No. 6 bib, Gerard took some of the most unique lines and used the full width of the course to profile his versatility on the different features. It was the United States' first gold medal of the Pyeongchang Olympics. (I don't know what beer cans look like in Korea!) But now I'm glad that Red Gerard's very chill family was planning on having a very good time-win or lose.

He had earlier managed just 43.33 points in his first run and 46.40 in his second.

The 18-year-old, who has never been beaten in competition, scored 10 points for the Olympic Athletes from Russia (OAR) team and was well ahead of the next best performer, Italy's Carolina Kostner who scored 75.10.

Thanks to Red Gerard, 17, Team USA won its first medal at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics!

"It's frustrating, it's disappointing and I can't really explain the Dutch sweep again", Blondin said. "I mean, I guess I've done it so much it just kind of feels pretty natural to me now, but it's definitely a pretty cool feeling, I would say". "I was able to watch Mark [McMorris, a fellow Canadian snowboarder] land the most hard run of the day, but it wasn't clean, and he was scored really low because of it".

"Whatever the outcome was today, just me being pumped on being able to ride a snowboard".

Parrot captured silver in men's slopestyle while McMorris took bronze. He said, oh, whatever, X Games is a bigger deal to me.

Canadian athletes came close, but failed to reach the podium on the first day medals were handed out in South Korea.

Viewers could clearly hear the shocked teen say 'Holy s***' on tv as he finished his final run. I had a lot of fun and all I really want to do is just land runs'. It was one of the highest-scoring rail sections of the day.
