Apple Siri, how can you be so 'silly'

As an aside, and given the bevy of bugs and security related issues we've seen Apple deal with over the past few months, there have been reports that Apple with iOS 12 will take its foot off the gas ever so slightly in an effort to focus more on system stability.

Even with the "Show Previews" featured set to display only "When Unlocked"(Settings Notifications Show Previews), you can still ask Siri to read any hidden notifications out loud by saying "Hey Siri, read my notifications". Things started looking brighter after the iOS 11.1.3 update but things have tanked once again.

The new bug is not about a botched up functionality but it is something that can be used to spy on others notifications.

Many privacy conscious users have configured their iPhone settings so that any incoming notifications won't be displayed on the device's lock screen.

To hide or show message content on the Lock screen, go into Settings Notifications, choose the app, select Previews and then choose your option.

Previously, we reported a bug in iOS 11 that allowed Siri to read messages out loud without unlocking the phone.

According to Mac Magazine Siri was able to read out hidden messages from third-party apps like Signal and WhatsApp on iPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus, both of which are running the latest iOS 11.2.6. But it looks like Siri can surpass this security layer quite easily.

In a statement to MacRumors, Apple said that it will fix a bug that caused Siri to read out hidden lock screen notifications to anyone who communicated with Siri. Recently a hacker had demoed how he could break into a Windows PC by using Cortana. They further assured that the same will be fixed in the upcoming software update. They should be enough to control the problem until Apple rolls out a bug fix.
