'Nigeria's neglected cases of tuberculosis is as high as 50%'

"TB is a serious and sometimes fatal disease, so it's important to learn about it and get tested, particularly if you're in a high-risk group, which includes Asians, Hispanics, people with diabetes and those who use drugs and alcohol", said State Health Commissioner Kris Box, MD, FACOG. Today, President and PM have also come out to address the issue of Tuberculosis in India., urging it to stop by 2050.

Dr Aung is an Otago microbiology graduate who was born in Myanmar, where about 26,000 people die from tuberculosis (TB) each year, contributing to the global picture of 1.7 million deaths worldwide annually.

But it is the missing 10 lakh that worries the government because it is the unfinished TB treatment that leads to more complicated drug-resistant TB cases. Although several EU/EEA countries are progressing towards sustained low levels of TB incidence and some towards the pre-elimination phase (defined as less than 10 cases per million population), great diversity in TB disease burden remains within the sub-region. Furthermore, documenting the prevalence of HIV co-infection among TB cases is still compromised by sub-optimal reporting in several countries.

"In recent years, the CHP has proactively introduced new TB drugs to provide more effective treatment for TB patients".

Now, as a result of the research to date which shows numerous drugs used to help fight TB in Myanmar are ineffective, new drugs to treat critically ill TB patients are increasingly available with the strong support of the Myanmar Government.

There is no better time than now to accelerate our efforts to eliminate TB.

Invoking the penalty clauses, the government hoped, would increase the notification rate from the private sector as almost 10 lakh TB patients are now not on the government radar, which means their treatment quality and duration remains a suspect. According to Mayo Clinic, it is mainly caused by a bacteria that can spread between people through microscopic droplets released into the air. The main focus this year is on building commitment to end TB.

He said a TB-free world will only be achieved through leaders who champion efforts to end TB at local level.

One of the obstacles to treating TB is the long treatment process. One of the biggest road blocks in eradicating TB is general lack of awareness about the condition. The theme aims at making people committed to make the world TB-free.

If we are to meet the sustainable development goals to end TB by 2030, it is crucial that the European Union also plays its part in the battle.

India has repeatedly - and unfortunately - figured prominently in the list of countries with maximum TB-related deaths. This medication will prevent the "infection" from becoming TB disease.

"We are working in conjunction with the national government to ensure that patients not only receive treatment but receive it early enough, with appropriate counselling, encouragement and information to enable them enjoy positive health outcomes through full recovery", said Ms Faith Kavata, a support sponsor.
