The lone Christian girl was held by the group and the president promised to have her released.

A faction of Boko Haram kidnapped 110 girls and one boy from the girls' school in Dapchi, a town in north-east Nigeria, in February, and released a lot of them a month later, after what the government described as "back-channel" negotiations.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the girls were handed over to the state government by a federal government delegation led by Minister of State Foreign Affairs, Khadijah Abba Ibrahim.

Yana Galang was visiting Dapchi in northeast Nigeria to offer condolences to parents whose daughters were kidnapped by Boko Haram when people started to shout with excitement.

"President Buhari put this in perspective when he said the response of his Administration is a marked departure from the attitude of the preceding administration in the aftermath of the kidnap of the 276 Chibok girls in 2014". What if they decide to abduct more people.

It said: "So, any step taken by the government to end the current security challenges in the country can not be too costly as long as it is done in accordance with worldwide best practices".

Meanwhile, the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Lawal Daura, had said that nearly all the freed Dapchi schoolgirls had one skin infection or the other for norlt bathing for one month.

"You know, I move with helicopter, and by the time I fly into the area they (Boko Haram) may think I break what the understanding may have been there. We are determined as never before, to bring back our remaining Chibok daughters and this, we must accomplish and that will be soon, by God's grace", he added.

The Dapchi students were released following "painstaking, backchannel dialogue with their abductors", said Director-General of State Services, Lawal Daura. The girls were freed on Wednesday. "This strategy paid off as the girls have been released without any incidents", he continued.

Five of the students were said to have died due to the nature of the journey as one of the rescued girls recounted.
