Facebook explains how and why it tracks people who don't use Facebook

For example, users can opt out of ads or delete their profiles.

Zuckerberg squirmed when pressed about a 2011 agreement with the Federal Trade Commission that was created to force Facebook to tighten its privacy controls. Second: Facebook is collecting data from lot of places like the apps or websites that lets you log in using your Facebook details. If Facebook did, it could be fined $40,000 per infraction. These companies - and many others - also offer advertising services. On Friday Facebook said it had no plans to build such a tool. Many businesses use Facebook ads to promote their products and services. Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook's chief operating idea, floated the idea in an interview with NBC before Zuckerberg appeared in Congress.

Zuckerberg emphasized that Facebook will always offer a free version of its network. Asked by Texas representative Gene Green whether all information Facebook holds about a user is in the file the company offers as part of its "download your data" feature, Zuckerberg had responded he believed that to be the case.

As Mark Zuckerberg noted last week that the company believes that its users deserve good privacy controls.

Facebook gets some data on non-users from people on its network, such as when a user uploads email addresses of friends. "Don't say we already do what GDPR requires", one passage from his cheat sheet reminded him.

In its latest blog post, the USA social networking giant said the programme in India aims "to fight the spread of false news on our platform".

While Facebook says it will not be applying the GDPR to the rest of the world just yet, CEO Mark Zuckerberg says the company does intend to expand privacy settings around the world.

The company insists that it only provides insights for advertisers based on user metrics, and maintains that Cambridge Analytica, a political consulting firm based in the United Kingdom that claims to influence elections, took advantage of this system back in 2014. A Facebook spokesperson declined to provide additional information.

Most of the political ads about divisive issues that ran on Facebook Inc before the 2016 United States presidential election were sponsored by "suspicious groups" with no publicly available information about them, according to a study released on Monday and based on a database of five million ads on Facebook.

Facebook allows advertisers to target users with adverts specifically based on personal data it holds.

The social network would be wise to recognize at least a right to know, said Michael Froomkin, a University of Miami law professor. Facebook said on Friday that it does not do so. Meanwhile, 78 Facebook users in Nigeria installed the app on their phone.

As Facebook, other social media sites and users themselves put greater value in trusted sources, musicians and labels that communicate in a straightforward and honest manner will be front an center once again, replacing the trolls, bots, and spammers that users and the social channels themselves are done with.
