Guardiola: Man City deserve greater title credit after derby defeat

Pep Guardiola has readily admitted that Manchester City would not be able to play their brand of football and win titles without "a lot of money".

After decades of living in United's shadow, City have changed the balance of power in Manchester firmly in their favour and are on the verge of their third title since 2012.

They have also reached the Champions League quarter finals, but face a tough task to progress further after losing 3-0 to Liverpool at Anfield in the first leg.

Before the game, Jurgen Klopp, Guardiola's Liverpool counterpart, apologised for the scenes outside Anfield. But that certainly was not the case yesterday. A banner in the Kop end reminded everyone of the five European titles won by the club - from 1977's first triumph, in Rome against Borussia Moenchengladbach to the extraordinary comeback in the 2005 final against AC Milan in Istanbul.

Having watched their rivals Manchester United dominate English football for the majority of the 1990's and the new millennium, City fans are relishing their opportunity to get one over their bitter foes on Saturday at the Etihad Stadium. Coping with the big occasion and hostile environments is certainly one of them.

Merseyside Police are conducting enquiries to identify those responsible for the attack on the Manchester City team bus at Anfield on Wednesday night.

After the sport, Kevin De Bruyne and Manchester Metropolis captain Vincent Kompany each refused in charge the incident involving the bus for the efficiency and the outcome at Anfield.

"No, it doesn't change anything. As long as you keep the violence down, there's nothing wrong with it".

That incident was unsavoury, but the atmosphere inside the stadium was the right kind of passion and hostility.

"It was incredible", said Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk.

"Our team tried to create and attack, that is what we have done all season, we tried to produce all of that quality and goals".

"Did we arrive here a little bit scared? It's just awesome to play in that atmosphere", he said.

The issue with this comes from the fact that Walker would have to play higher up the pitch, leaving Laporte playing as a left-back to tuck inside to form a back three to negate any gaps in behind and thus leaving Sane completely isolated against Trent Alexander-Arnold.

"The result against United will help emotionally to prepare for the game on Tuesday", he said.

It wasn't even half-time and the City fans were roaring "ole" to each pass as Guardiola's side toyed with a totally ineffective United, passing the ball around them in midfield.
