Ugly scenes outside Anfield marred Liverpool's 3-0 victory against Manchester City last week Ugly scenes outside Anfield marred Liverpool's 3-0 victory against Manchester City last week

Manchester City must overturn a 3-0 deficit against Liverpool in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie on Tuesday and manager Pep Guardiola said that will require "the flawless game" from his players.

Mohamed Salah, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sadio Mane netted at Anfield.

"I think it's going to be imperative in the middle of the park", Murphy said on talkSPORT. Create a lot of chances and be clinical when you create those chances.

"You could see in the second half (of the first leg) we were tucked in and it was hard to defend and they came through more than they did in the first half so I don't think we should sit too far back. And if we are not clinical then move on to the next one", he said.

"Of course we know two defeats are not easy but that happens to the best teams in the world". We had to score a goal but they defended more.

"I don't want to lose, and we are sad because we want to be champions".

City will be desperate to turn it around on Tuesday following a tough week for the club, that saw them miss out on the Premier League title on Saturday after falling to a 3-2 defeat to rivals Manchester United.

And Guardiola has admitted that his side need to execute the flawless game if they are to progress. We are not here for a few months but for a long period, especially the players.

"Of course, to go through you have to play nearly the ideal game", he told a news conference. "We know that and the opponents know that".

Following City's defeat at Anfield, they fail an uphill task of making the Champions League semi-final.

Guardiola believes the sense of occasion is enough motivation for his players who have shown adequate desire even in their recent losses.

"To reach the semi-final would be the second time in our handsome history", he told reporters on the eve of the match.

"You don't have to talk too much about the motivation".

"They have had two results nobody expected but we had to play our best". My team is not comparable with many others.

"More than ever we need our fans and supporters to be with us and we will see what happens tomorrow night but I hope we can do our job".
