The Colorado Rockies will be without star third baseman Nolan Arenado for five games after Major League Baseball suspended him Friday stemming from a bench-clearing brawl against the San Diego Padres earlier in the week.

Arenado was suspended five games by Major League Baseball after charging the mound and throwing punches.

Both Arenado and Perdomo received five-game bans for fighting at the mound, while Rockies outfielder Gerardo Parra received a four-game suspension for joining the fray.

Kelly has received a six-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for intentionally hitting Austin with a pitch and fighting. Perdomo, who instigated the confrontation after purposefully throwing at Arenado, is not expected to appeal his suspension and will need to be replaced in advance of Monday's series opener against the Dodgers.

Catcher A.J. Ellis and infielder Freddy Galvis of the Padres and pitcher German Márquez of the Rockies were all fined for their roles in the incident.

In all likelihood, even if the suspension remains at five games, they could start him the day after his suspension ends and just give him an extra day of rest.

Arenado and Parra appealed their suspensions, allowing them to play for Colorado against the Washington Nationals on Friday night.

Rockies manager Bud Black said the suspensions were about what he expected. That's not why we're playing this game.

"We will see how long this is going to be, but I'm going to find a way to figure it out", he said.

"I'll find a way to stay ready and stay locked in". San Diego's Manuel Margot was hit first and ended up on the disabled list. "Charlie was encouraged, as was Keith".
