Cans, bottles and flares were thrown at the bus as a crowd gathered outside Anfield before the 3-0 Champions League quarter final first-leg defeat.

A scintillating opening 45 minutes saw the visitors blown away with goals from Mohamed Salah, his 38th of the season, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sadio Mane.

After seeing his side lose 3-0 at Anfield, Pep Guardiola was critical of the Liverpool supporters who attacked the City team en route to the stadium.

"In this room I think there is nobody except the guy talking to you (Guardiola himself) who believes we can go through".

Liverpool face a nervous wait to find out the severity of Salah's injury, particularly with the second leg against City taking place next Tuesday.

City started well on their part, they had very good possession in the first 10 minutes and made attempts to open up the Reds on their turf. I have never been part of the best team in the world, but I always knew it is possible to beat them.

"City are an unbelievable football team but they are only human and you put anyone in a pressure environment in an atmosphere like that and maybe it can disturb them. It got us going and it would probably shake anyone up".

A lot of eyebrows were raised at the inclusion of Trent Alexander-Arnold in the starting line-up, but the 19-year-old proved his manager right and his critics wrong with one of his finest performances in a Liverpool shirt.

Liverpool's attacking threat was never in doubt going in to this highly anticipated tie, especially considering the way they bulldozed through City in their 4-3 victory in the Premier League.

"But I do not have that feeling".

And it had nothing to do with the huge blimp hovering in the sky to mark the club's new partnership with dating app Tinder.

Captain Vincent Kompany said it "had no effect on us" and that it was something they have experienced before, while midfielder Kevin de Bruyne said there was "nothing wrong with it".

"About Mo, I don't know in the moment", Klopp told reporters.

"The result is tough but I don't have the feeling we played to concede that result".

Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp are well renowned for their high pressing but City were punished because of the opposition's work-rate.

The excitement is coming thick and fast for Liverpool fans right now.
