The Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge will get an update to Android 8.0 Oreo in mid-May, and it's not just a rumor this time - it's officially confirmed. The firmware is only available over-the-air right now and can't be downloaded through SmartSwitch. The firmware update is now being rolled out over-the-air in the United Kingdom and it's only a matter of time before it's released elsewhere.

After certain ambiguities regarding whether the Galaxy S7/S7 Edge will receive Android Oreo anytime soon or not.

A noteworthy aspect of the Android Oreo is the Rescue Party feature, which helps the device recover from constant boot loops. If you are using the Galaxy Tab S2, the update coming your way has software version T819YDXU2BRC2 and for those on the Galaxy Tab S3, the update has software version T825JXU1ARC1. The 2016 pair is also joined by last year's Galaxy Note 8, which is getting software version N950WVLU4CRD5, but this update is for the Canadian market.

Along with that, all the features of Android Oreo 8.0 such as the picture in picture mode, better doze, enhanced Auto-fill fields in any browser and much more are here.

For the unfamiliar, Android Oreo brings tons of new features to the operating system, including PiP, autofill, notification channels as well as the Samsung Experience update 9.0.

According to the logs checked by the XDA bods, the phones in question are the unlocked United Kingdom versions, which would make them among the first in the world to get the update - which would mean that further countries are likely to follow suit soon. If we want to get technical, Samsung's update server confirms that the update is rolling out for region BTU and model numbers SM-G930F and SM-G935F.
