Valve is creating a Steam streaming app for smart devices

Steam Link is Coming to Android and iOS Devices You'll be able to play Steam games on your phone next week

Valve Software is getting ready to launch a Steam Link app for Android, Apple iOS, and tvOS that allows PC gamers to stream their library of Steam games directly to compatible devices.

Valve will release two new apps allowing users to stream games and movies on their phones and tablets. Android access will initially be offered in a beta state.

Unsurprisingly, the app that'll let you stream to your smart TV and devices is called the Steam Link app, and the one that'll enable you to stream movies is the Steam Video app. As you likely know, when you use this system, your more powerful machine does all the heavy lifting, beaming essentially a video signal to your streaming device. The Steam Link app includes support for the Steam Controller and Apple-approved controllers.

Announced just today, Valve is expanding its streaming solution outside of the confines of the Steam Link. Like many cloud solutions, Steam requires a 5GHz or Ethernet connection between the host and the router and the host (which can be Mac or PC) and the device.

Steam Video, on the other hand, is something new entirely. You cannot play on the road.

But assume it does work, you'll be able to play GTA V on your phone with no downscaling or compromise and that's ruddy exciting. Steam Link and Steam Video will release for both iOS and Android, though not at the same time.

Finally, Valve informed that it plans to launch another similar application so that users can stretch the video content they bought on Steam. Thanks to customer feedback, this app will function in both wireless and offline modes.
